Trailer hitch locks are designed to go over the hitch ball so the trailer cannot be removed from whatever vehicle it is attached to. Wheel clamps are another form of trailer security that goes over the wheel and wheel nuts to prevent thieves taking the trailer or trying to remove the wheel, as the wheel is unable to turn all the way around and the wheel nuts are covered by the mechanism. They are usually brightly coloured, so thieves are quickly deterred from attempting to steal the trailer.
