Hot water cylinder thermostats work by turning your heating on and off from the boiler to the hot water cylinder. They are generally surface mounted or attached to the outside of the hot water cylinder and the temperature should be set to eradicate any harmfuul bacteria in the water, typically between 60 and 65 degrees.
